John Harrison is a former Principal and CEO of Harrison Leifer DiMarco, the advertising agency he built into one of Long Island’s largest through a well-planned program of acquisitions and mergers. John knows better than most what it takes to grow an agency and make it profitable. With the successful purchase of his first ad agency (The Mortimer Lowell Co.) to create Lowell/Harrison in 1986, and the subsequent merger with Robert Scott Advertising (headed by Herb Leifer) in 1992, John knew he had found the fastest way to grow his business. In 1996, the new agency Lowell/Harrison/Leifer acquired two more agencies (Zam Kirshner and Market Smart), then acquired a third, larger agency in 1997 (Phillips Miller Speyer & Frost) to become Harrison Leifer Miller & Speyer, the first advertising agency ever to make Long Island’s 25 Fastest Growing Private Companies. In 2001, John merged with KRS Communications owned by Roy DiMarco, to form Harrison Leifer DiMarco. In 2003, HLD merged with Erin/Edwards Communications, an interactive and package goods agency. Also in 2003, John was honored as the Advertising Executive of the Year by the Long Island Advertising Club and Long Island Business News. Then, in 2004, John engineered the acquisition of Howard Blankman Public Relations, strengthening HLD’s existing PR arm, and becoming Long Island’s premier full-service agency.
John retired from agency management in 2006, successfully selling his stake in Harrison Leifer DiMarco to the remaining partners, capitalizing on an exit strategy he had put in place many years before. John is a past Board member of the League of Advertising Agencies of New York, Long Island Ad Club, Advertising Agency Council, a trustee of Nichols College and a past Board member of the Seawane Country Club in Hewlett.
